The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller Merging Silent Hill and Among Us Mechanics
The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several fascinating upcoming titles, but one especially has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.
"This is a distinctive experience where a young woman containing multiple personalities inside her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.
Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness
In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of teenage years. Inside her exist four separate personas, each with their own anxieties and drives. These souls can take over at will, releasing their deep-seated terrors upon her suddenly.
Judging by showcased footage, much of the action unfolds within a creepy medical facility, though additional clips depict the main character exploring a abandoned chapel.
An Environment of Individual Dread
"What makes you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that appear minor to other people can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game delves into that concept — anxieties that are unique to every individual."
The core gameplay loop involves controlling whichever soul surfaces at any given time. However, these identities will change against your will during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become amplified and assault the girl one after another. As the persona changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.
Unsettling Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision
At first glance, UN:Me displays striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is populated by nurses who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the lobby have enormous blooms growing from their heads are. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.
Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "All four souls asserts that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."
Once players believes a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. However, because each soul can deceive or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.
"Perhaps you've already eliminated the true [soul] by your own actions," the narration suggests. "The final entity remaining might be a fake. Either way, your choices are irreversible."
UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is can be follow on digital storefronts.
