The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Whenever a significant prize-giving event draws close, one notices an outcry for the addition additional classifications to honor unsung work and fill the spirits of fans with niche passions.

My colleague previously argued for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand remains most pressing and significant. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and typically start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why film award organizations don’t do it. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise within the realm of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories effectively encompass numerous genres, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, all very different: building puzzles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. What category would fit them between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked completely during that awards season
  • A different innovative game missed out in 2019
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment recently
  • Only a few brain-teasers scraped into niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as the most-played games worldwide and have been for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals famous sandbox experiences for the title of highest-selling title ever; it also contends for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, while interacting with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators function at the hard edge of video game design, producing among essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait generations.
