The Two Fatalities Named in Brown University Incident as Authorities Persist in Hunt for Killer.

Both young individuals who died in the recent mass shooting at Brown University had tributes paid to them on Monday – while an intensive search for their killer persisted following the freeing by local law enforcement of the only individual detained in connection in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was remembered as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, according to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a gathering on Sunday.

Her role included second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of College Republicans of America, as the club stated. Karoline Leavitt also expressed condolences publicly, stating: “There are no words. Keeping in mind her family and friends, above all her mom and dad.”

An International Student

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his first year of studies at the renowned school, family members said.

His name was officially acknowledged by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. His ambitions were lofty of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and helping people,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a online post.

Details of the Attack

Nine other people were injured in Saturday’s attack in the engineering building of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Officials stated late Sunday that a 24-year-old male arrested in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“A perpetrator remains free,” stated Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you must reassess and head another way, and that is the current situation over the last 24 hours or so.”

Community Anxiety

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “We know that this is likely to cause new worry for our community”.

The assailant discharged a weapon inside a lecture hall in the building on Saturday afternoon, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm pistol, a police source informed the Associated Press.

Officers that entered the hotel found two firearms and two loaded 30-round magazines when the person of interest was detained, the news agency reported.

Condition of the Injured

Of the nine hurt, one student was allowed to go home, mentioned Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in serious yet stable state, and another was critically ill, police said on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a private academy in the city of Durham, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

Additional Memorials

Tributes were paid to Cook at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A reverend stated, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only in her youth... but at Brown University she was an incredible light in that specific location as well.”

Martin Bertao, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the club. “She was famed for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she served her chapter and other students,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the passing of Umurzokov in a message. “Our profound condolences go out to the Umurzokov family, loved ones, and schoolmates and grieve for of his promising future.”

The fatal shooting at Brown, the country's seventh most historic higher education institution with about 7,300 undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students, occurred during one of at least nearly 400 mass shootings documented across the United States so far in the current year, according to records. That Monday marked the 349th day of the year.
