Thrice-crowned MVP Jokic endures a 'gut-wrenching' leg setback.
Three-time NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffered a "gut-wrenching" knee injury when the Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 to the Miami Heat.
The star player was hurt late in the first half in an accidental coming together with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.
Jones came down on the foot of the MVP, and he instantly collapsed to the ground grabbing his leg.
The veteran player, who leads the NBA season in boards and dimes, recorded a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the contest prior to suffering the injury.
He will have an MRI scan on the following day to assess the severity of the issue.
"Right away, he knew there was a problem," commented Nuggets coach Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Any player who gets hurt, it's difficult, particularly a player as special as he is. More information will come on Tuesday."
"We'll move on together. Of course, at this moment, I am more concerned primarily about Jokic personally and the disappointment of facing a situation of that nature."
